Mission and tasks

PROJECT

Network Consultant's responsibilities in this domain include the coordination with other infrastructure related departments regarding logistics, building or security aspects, providing best practices advice on infrastructure related questions with the purpose of optimising the quality of services and the best usage of available resources. The activities may also include the research and analysis of new products in order to improve the infrastructure services from a cost, security and performance point of view.

Definition, delivery, operation and support of Local Area Network solutions: Physical and wireless connectivity, IP infrastructures, telephony, multimedia, Internet access, remote access.

Operations and support, security and continuity: Analysis, definition, design, integration, implementation, test, deployment, maintenance, support.

TASKS

  • Analysis and specification of operational requirements
  • Analysis and specification of operational processes·
  • Analysis and specification of technical requirements·
  • Proofs of concept·
  • Development of scripts to automate and monitor recurrent systems related tasks·
  • Definition of test strategies, test design and testing of computing systems and networks·
  • Performance management·
  • Change and Configuration management (e.g., assessment, scheduling, implementation, review)·
  • Capacity management·
  • Risk management·
  • Operational support (2nd tier)
  • Installation and configuration of all relevant hardware and software
  • Daily monitoring
  • Incident and Problem Management (e.g. trouble ticketing, fault analysis, diagnosis, and resolution)
  • Reporting
  • Coordination with 3rd party maintenance contractors·
  • Technical assessment of technologies and related products·
  • All types of technical documentation, operational guidelines and procedures·
  • Technical training and guidance·

  • Technical analysis and specifications, architecture, design, implementation and deployment of public or EU classified local area network infrastructures

Profile

EDUCATION

  • Master Degree in IT or related matter or Bachelor Degree complemented by 5 years of professional practice in IT

LANGUAGES

  • English - Fluent (B2 or similar)
  • French is an asset (B1 or similar)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 7 years of IT experience

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE - MANDATORY

  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience in Advice on network strategies, design, integration, deployment, daily management and debugging of Local Area Network solutions
  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience in Administration of Ethernet switching and routing systems in large networks (>1000 nodes)
  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience in Networking services in Microsoft environments
  • Minimum 3 years of IT experience in Load balancing switches, L4 to L7 switching
  • TCP/IP Suite (SNMP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, CWDM, QoS, …)
  • MS Office applications and tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE - DESIRABLE

  • Drafting of network related documentation (Plans, schemas, manuals, reports, etc.)
  • Wireless network technologies (in particular WLAN Wi-Fi)
  • Cabling systems (UTP, Fibre Optic)
  • WAN technologies (IP switching, satellite communication, ADSL)
  • Networking solutions for virtual server environments
  • Virtual network solutions (i.e. virtualisation of network devices such as virtual switches or virtual load balancers)
  • IP Telephony solutions and network-related services (in particular QoS and PoE)
  • SSL (offload/acceleration, interception, VPN)
  • Bandwidth Management Solutions
  • Proxy Solutions
  • Crypto Devices

  • HP ASE - Network Infrastructure
  • RCAS-AL - Radware Certified Application Specialist for Alteon
  • HP ASE - Wireless Networks Implementer
  • Blue Coat Visibility and Control Certification (Packeteer)
  • ITIL Foundation

METHODOLOGY

  • ITIL framework and methodology
  • Project Management (Prince2, PMI or equivalent)
